I know that Jem and the Holograms was a "chick cartoon" but I was a fan. Maybe it's because I always had a thing for 80's rocker chicks like Lita Ford and Joan Jett, even as a child. So, when I heard that they were making a live action version, I was disturbed because everyone knows that it is a law of the universe that when you do a remake or sequel this many years later it is going to suck donkey balls. And so it did. It only made 1.3 million dollars on 2400 screens. That means that each theater made less than $600 on the movie. If you know anything about how the movie theater business goes, that's not even enough to cover the cost of the screeners. It's an even bigger bomb than that crappy Pan movie that came out a month ago and that's saying a lot.

This is what happens when something that worked has a solid fanbase yet is turned upside down for a desperate grab at another segment of the population that isn't inherently interested. That it apparently sucked did not help either.
I don't know why they even bother making crap like this. If you are not going to do it right, don't do it at all.
